SAN FABIAN—At 74, this grandpa could be the oldest biker in town who enjoys doing the rounds regularly.

Isaias Umangay Jr, born on May 12, 1943 from Barangay Poblacion this town told The PUNCH he started biking as his hobby and sports only 7 years ago, when he was 67 years old.

He regretted having started on it late and only did so to strengthen his stamina as he felt he was starting to feel weak already.

He would bike around Barangay Inmalog for sometime but has resumed the regimen, this time going farther to Barangay Bolaoen.

He said he makes it a point to ride his bike twice a week routinely and has since met many people because of biking.

“It’s good, I feel young, it improved my memory. It’s as if my illness is gone,” he said in Pangasinan.

If he skips the routine over a week, he begins to feel weak all day.

“I will continue doing it as long as I can,” he said.

Umangay’s bike was sold to him second hand.

Umangay is one of the bikers who enjoys the San Fabian bike trail conceptualized and being developed by Fourth District Rep Christopher de Venecia to boost tourism and sports in this town. (Eva Visperas)
