Time for funeral cortege in San Carlos City restricted

SAN CARLOS CITY— The city mayor here issued an executive order restricting the holding of funeral cortege or procession on the city’s main roads here to prevent traffic congestion.

Mayor Joseres Resuello signed Executive Order No. 073-17 series of 2017 dated Sept. 29 which took effect immediately, citing traffic congestion here especially during peak hours of business that has become a major concern.

He said various initiatives and mechanisms are in the offing to address worsening traffic congestion issue and one observation is the slowdown of traffic when a cortege or funeral procession is held particularly during peak hours.

“Certainly funeral cortege held during rush hours in the city streets heighten traffic congestion,” his order said.

He said holding of funeral cortege between 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. or times beyond rush hours would help decongest traffic and will benefit the general public.

Henceforth, funeral cortege or procession will be held in the following schedule: Weekdays only between 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.; Saturdays only at 1:00 p.m. onward; and Sundays, allowed the whole day.

He directed the city police and Public Order and Safety Office members to enforce his order. (Eva Visperas)
