DAGUPAN CITY – The city government’s “Tanggal Gulong” and “Operation Sitio” have remarkably helped lower cases of dengue and leptospirosis in Dagupan.

This was gleaned from the comparable report of the City Health Office (CHO) showing that the recorded cases of dengue and leptiospirosis this year are considerably lower than in 2016.

City Health Officer Dr. Ophelia T. De Vera disclosed that during the first quarter of 2017, the city has recorded only 62 cases of dengue as compared to last year’s 110 cases.

In the second quarter, only 70 cases have been recorded as compared to 117 last year and in the third quarter, only 210 cases were recorded as compared to 409 cases last year.

CHO records also show that in January only 28 cases had been recorded as compared to 54 cases in 2016; in February, only 19 as compared to 37 in 2016; in March, only 15 as compared to 19 last year; in April, only 14 as compared to 24 in 2016.

In May, only 20 cases were recorded as compared to 37 in 2016; in June, only 36 in 2017 while 56 in 2016; in July, only 51 while 55 in 2016; in August only 84 while 130 in 2016; in September only 75 while the CHO recorded a high of 224 in 2016.

“Tanggal Gulong” and Operation Sitio, initiated by Mayor Belen T. Fernandez, encourage the people in the barangays to adopt the ‘bayanihan’ system in fighting dengue and leptospirosis.  (Joseph C. Bacani/CIO)
