THE revival of the Northern Luzon Railway System is being sought by congressmen in northern and central Luzon.

Pangasinan Second District Rep. Leopoldo Bataoil led the drafting of the joint resolution that was signed and filed by House Representatives from northern and central Luzon for the revival of the Railway system from Metro Manila to Bulacan, Pampanga, Tarlac, Pangasinan and La Union.

The bill sponsors cited the impact and positive effect of railways in other countries’ economy.

Bataoil said the neglect of the old Philippine National Railway and closure of the north railway led to many lost opportunities for central and northern Luzon.

He said countries that built their railways in the early days and maintained to this day are greatly benefitting their economy and tourism.

The resolution has asked the Department of Transportation and Communication to prepare and submit plans for the revival of the Northern Luzon Railway System, Bataoil said. (Nora Dominguez)
