SAN FABIAN—Fourth District Rep. Christopher de Venecia briefed senior citizens in San Fabian about the pending House bills filed for their benefit and for which he has committed support.

De Venecia told the the Federation of Senior Citizens Associations of the Philippines (San Fabian chapter) during the annual Senior Citizens’ Day celebration on Oct. 8 that there are three House Bills- HB  2192, HB 2622 and HB 6251 that he has co-authored.

HB 2192 and HB 2622 seek to exempt senior citizens from paying passport processing fee and from paying fees for application for new and renewal of driver’s licenses, respectively.

HB 6251 seeks to establish the National Senior Citizens Commission to address the needs of more than 10 million senior citizens across the country.

“My aim in all these House bills is to thank and reciprocate, even in small way, all the love and sacrifice of our senior citizens,” he said.

He added that a recommended Social Pension for Indigent Citizens under the Department of Social Welfare and Development seeks to provide a monthly cash grant for indigent senior citizens, particularly the sick and disabled, those without pension and permanent source of income or support from their relatives.

Meanwhile, De Venecia cited the three centenarians of San Fabian, namely, Demetria Carina, Genoveva Juguilon and Gregoria Narvasa.

He urged the senior citizens to continue to be active in community school, civic and church activities and share their experiences and expertise.

He said communities will be benefited by the active involvement of senior citizens.
