Five notorious robbers killed in shootout with cops

POZORRUBIO –Five suspected members of a notorious robbery gang operating in Pangasinan, Central and Southern Luzon as well as in Metro Manila were killed in a shootout at past noon Friday inside a hotel in Poblacion II, Pozorrubio past 12:30 noon on Friday, Oct. 27, according to the police.

The identities of the slain suspects have not been identified by the police at press time.

P/Sr. Superintendent Ronald Lee, Pangasinan police director, said the suspects checked in at past 10:00 a.m. and occupied two rooms in the hotel. The owner of the hotel saw them to be armed and reported it to the police..

The police did not attack the suspects till 12:30 p.m.

However, the suspects fired back. No one among the lawmen was wounded.

Recovered from the suspects were assorted firearms.

All of the five suspects were shot inside their rooms. Four died instantly while another was rushed to a local hospital for treatment but died on the way.

Employees of the hotel said the armed men arrived in the hotel on board a black Toyota Fortuner without a plate number. The vehicle turned out to be carnapped in Dagupan City the day before.

P/Chief Inspector Norman Florentino, public information officer of the Pangasinan Police Office, said those who participated in the operations were members of the Pozorrubio Police and adjacent police stations, Provincial Intelligence Branch, Pangasinan Police Provincial Office and Criminal Investigation and Detection Group.
