DOTC asked to fast track Bolinao lighthouse upgrading

THE upgrading of the Bolinao lighthouse’ equipment will not happen soon in spite of the P35-million budget for the rehabilitation and modernization of the old Bolinao Lighthouse included in the GAA of 2016.

This is the worry of First District Rep. Jesus Celeste because no bidding for the project could proceed since no contractor expressed interest to bid for the project.

“If nobody wants to bid, then the Department of Transportation and Communication must seek to rehabilitate the lighthouse on its own,” Celeste told The PUNCH.

He said, aside from the project is very beneficial to seafarers, this landmark also serves as a tourist attraction overlooking the white sand of Patar Beach.

He appealed to the DOTC to implement the planned upgrading of the lighthouse equipment because the lighthouse already often loses its light and therefore hazardous to ships and seafarers.
