BEST ENVIRONMENTAL-FRIENDLY SCHOOL

FOR using recycled materials as decors in every classroom, in gardening and to beautify the whole school, Malued Elementary School is not just the region’s champ as an Eco-Friendly School but is also the region’s contender in the 2017 National Search for Sustainable and Eco-Friendly Schools.

The search is organized by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Environment Management Bureau (DENR-EMB) along with the Department of Education (DepEd), among others, which seeks to encourage schools to become more actively involved in environmental issues at a practical and local level and recognizes academic institutions with the best eco-friendly programs and activities.

It is a direct response to National Environmental Awareness and Education Act of 2008 and the country’s initiative to the ASEAN Environmental Education Action Plan for Sustainable Development from 2014-2018.

Evaluators from the DepEd Central Office and the DENR evaluated the school on October 10. Results will be out during the National Environmental Awareness Month and National Clean Air Month celebrations on November.

Among the winning eco-friendly works of the school included the mini-mouse plastic containers in their garden made of recycled mineral water bottles, a colorful plant pots made of worn-out tires, a one-liter light.

The pupils’ participation in making the school an eco-friendly school was also taken as part of the evaluation.

Mayor Belen T. Fernandez congratulated the teachers and the pupils of the school especially to the Most Outstanding Principal Ms. Jane T. Cajayon for qualifying in the national search along with the members of the barangay council headed by Malued Punong Barangay Ampeng Delos Santos as they work together to keep the school and eco-Friendly School.

Fernandez disclosed that Malued Elementary School truly deserves to be in the finals as can be gleaned with the innovative eco-friendly measures implemented in the school. (Joseph C. Bacani/CIO)
