Bayambang still with highest dengue cases

LINGAYEN–Bayambang continues to register the highest number of cases of dengue in Pangasinan.

It remains on top of the the list of eight towns and two cities placed by the Provincial Health Office (PHO) under the dengue watch list.

From January to September 30 this year, Bayambang recorded 310 dengue cases, the highest so far recorded in Pangasinan this year.

PHO records showed that the number of dengue cases registered in the province from January to September 30 this year already reached 3,181 cases or eight percent higher than the 2,936 cases registered for the same period in 2016.

Other towns in the watch list are: Malasiqui follows at 167, with Bugallon, Urdaneta City and San Carlos City registering 166, 162 and 161, respectively.

Lingayen had 159 cases, followed by Tayug, 116; Asingan, 97; Bolinao, 94; and Binmaley, 90.

The highest number of dengue cases in the province was registered during the province’s rainiest month of August this year at 1,164, which tapered down to only 446 for the whole month of September.

There were nine deaths recorded from January to September this year, one from Dagupan City, as compared to 13 during the whole year of 2016.

Last year, Dagupan registered four deaths.

The PHO recorded the youngest person afflicted by dengue this year was a nine-year -old boy while the oldest was a 90-year-old grandfather. (Leonardo Micua)
