ONE person was killed and four others injured when a passenger jeepney with Plate No. AVE-153 rammed a concrete waiting shed while racing with another jeepney along the Bonuan road in Bonuan Gueset at about 4:30 a.m. of October 17.

The lone fatality was identified as Alfredo Paulino, 45, of Paras Street in Bonuan Gueset, who was rushed by the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) ambulance to the Region 1 Medical Center (R1MC) where he was declared dead on arrival.

Injured and also treated at R1MC were JO1 Salvador Brumuela of Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in Bonuan Gueset, Lelia Bambakan, 71, vendor, of Bonuan Tondaligan; Haide Dawana, 53, of Centro, Bonuan Gueset; and Charisma Libutan, 34, of Paras Street, Bonuan Gueset.

According to its passengers, the jeepney driven by Jimmy Lacad, 49, of Sitio Barracks in Barangay Bonuan Gueset, was speeding towards the downtown area racing with another passenger jeepney.

Initial investigation showed while he was overtaking the other jeepney, Lacad’s unit experienced mechanical trouble with its steering wheel that made the driver lose control of the wheels and subsequently rammed a concrete waiting shed by the road side beside the Scorpion Carwash. (Leonardo Micua)
