SUBJECT TO PDEA VALIDATION

IF the trend in the campaign against illegal drugs continues and sustained, the Pangasinan Police is confident that the whole province can be declared drug-free.

According to P/Chief Inspector Norman Florentino, spokesman of the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office, 26 municipalities earlier declared as drug-free by their respective towns and Anti-Drug Advisory Councils have been submitted to the regional office of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency for validation.

To date, Florentino said there are only 54 barangays in the province that remain drug-affected from the previous 1,271 drug-affected barangays in the province.

San Carlos City still has the most number of barangays affected by drugs.

For a barangay to be declared drug-free, Florentino said, the barangay chairman has to account for and certify to the whereabouts of all the personalities including those that transferred to other areas or new address. If a drug personality has gone abroad, a certification from the Bureau of Immigration will be required. (Nora Dominguez)
