CITY Agriculture Officer Emma J. Molina directed all motorboat owners operating either as fishing or passenger vessels to register with her office as required by City Ordinance No.1768, series of 2003, which regulates fishing activities in the city.

It is also in compliance with E.O. 305 devolving to municipal and city governments the registration of fishing vessels weighing three (3) gross tons and below.

There are at least 500 motorboats operating in the city either as fishing or passenger vessels.

The Maritime Police of the PNP also warned the boat owners that failure to register can lead to their apprehension for operating illegally.

The city’s ordinance requires owners to pay P1,350.00 as annual registration fee.

In meeting with the boat owners, Mayor Belen T. Fernandez said the city will purchase life-saving vests to be worn by passengers as safety policy.

Fernandez said budget has been allocated for the purchase of 1,000 life vests. (CIO/JCB)
