50 drug personalities finish rehab, livelihood training
CALASIAO COMMUNITY-BASED REHAB PROGRAM
FIFTY self-confessed drug users and pushers in Calasiao town have completed the community-based rehabilitation program and received certificates in simple ceremonies.
P/Superintendent Charlie Umayam, Calasiao police chief, said the 50, the first batch of the 403 that surrendered, have also undergone the livelihood and skills development training program organized by the municipal government, DSWD and the PNP in coordination with Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.
Umayam said he divided the number of drug-affected residents into groups of 50 to easily manage their progress and ensure positive results on the trainings counseling given them.
Since the town is known for its puto-making industry, he said those undergoing rehab will have the option to train as their means of livelihood. Puto-makers have been invited to conduct lectures.
He said TESDA is being consulted about other training options for livelihood.
The rehab program includes reformatory physical activities, counseling and are continuously being monitored.
Meanwhile, the town’s 24 barangays have already been cleared of illegal drugs even before the community based rehabilitation program was started but the police continue it’s monitoring to prevent possible entry of drug suspects from the two neighboring cities, San Carlos and Dagupan.
He said the town government and the police are targeting to be declared drug-free next month. Calasiao is sandwiched by Dagupan City and San Carlos City.
Vice Mayor Mahadeva Das Mesina also assured the former drug users and pushers that they will have the full support of the local government under the leadership of Mayor Joseph Arman Bauzon.
