Teams Alaminos, Burgos win 1st match
UNITY VOLLEYBALL FINALS
LINGAYEN – The volleyball teams of Alaminos City and Burgos town won their respective first matches against their nemesis in the best-of-three finals of the 1st LGU Unity Games Women’s Volleyball Tournament organized by the provincial government.
Alaminos City outplayed Sta. Barbara (25-16, 25-11, 16-25, 26-24) in the women’s volleyball tournament Division I while Burgos prevailed over Aguilar (25-23, 25-19, 21-25, 25-18) in Division II during the championship games’ first face-offs held at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center gymnasium on August 17.
Posting a sweeping campaign in the elimination rounds, Alaminos City is considered top seed in the quarterfinal and semi-final games, leading to the finals. Burgos, on the other hand, is top contender in its division.
Alaminos City spiker Alice Visda’s ace serves and running spikes fuelled her team to secure the first set (25-16) and second set (25-11) of their first match with Sta. Barbara.
Sta. Barbara, on the other hand, turned back Alaminos City in third set (25-16).
Tension was high in the fourth set as the crowd went wild, cheering for their respective teams that led to successive deadlocks, before Alaminos City ended the last set (26-24).
Meanwhile, Burgos town flawlessly secured the first and second sets of the matchup vs. Aguilar (25-23; 25-19) with star player Mitch Naval doing the damage to the rival team with her running spikes.
Aguilar town’s ace player Hillary Castro, on the other hand, aced successive serves and delivered powerful spikes to end the third set in favor of her team (21-25) despite six consecutive deadlocks.
Burgos ended the fourth set with a rousing victory (25-18) when it gained the momentum after deadlock (14-14).
Landing third in the LGU Unity Games – women’s volleyball tourney (Division I) is Rosales town that defeated Bayambang via a knock-out-game held earlier (25-16, 14-25, 25-18).
Team Sison placed third in the volleyball tournament (Division I) after accumulating 68 points in three sets besting Urbiztondo that only gained 58 points.
