ALAMINOS CITY—Modern technology now found in today’s cars can enable owners of carnapped vehicles to trace and recover their units.

This was the case of Evangeline Umetso, 45, of San Ildefonso, Bulacan, whose Toyota Innova was stolen but managed to trace it and recovered it from a businessman in Bolinao through its installed active Global Positioning System (GPS) feature.

Umetso told the Alaminos City Police her car was rented for one month by one Roger Garvida Fuentes, 37, of North Fairview, Quezon City.

However, after a month, Garvida could not be contacted in his cellular phone and in his stated home address.

It was then that Umetso asked the Highway Patrol Group (HPG) to help her find his car.

At that time, the car was in the possession of one Johnny Inocelda, a businessman, 43, and his driver Renante Pascua, both of Barangay Balingasay, Bolinao..

The suspects were arrested by the police at 8:45 p.m. August 7, on board the car.

Inocelda admitted he bought the car from one Gabriel Islocum, alias “Raymundo”, of Fairview, Quezon City but could not present any document.

Operatives of the HPG are now hunting for both Garvida and Islocom. (Leonardo Micua)
