SM City Rosales hosts book reading for kids

ROSALES — SM City Rosales, an advocate for book reading among school children, invited an international beauty queen to lead a storytelling activity at SM City Rosales on July 18 for the National Children’s Book Reading Day here.

Christine Joy Picardal, Miss Diamond of the World 2016, who hails from Sison town, read Bumabara! Bara-bara, a Filipino storybook that teaches kids about proper waste disposal. Picardal won her title on Oct. 6, 2016 in Algeria.

Drake Lim, SM City Rosales assistant mall manager, read another children’s story titled Two Friends, One World.

They later asked pupils at Rosales Wesleyan Academy questions to test their comprehension about stories read to them.

Catherine Garcia, SM City Rosales mall manager, thanked Vibal Publishing, Unicef, National Bookstore and Anvil Publishing as active partners for helping SM promote literacy development at a young age.

The books SM has been providing the children have evolved from bilingual text (English and Tagalog) to having Braille books for the visually impaired.

She added they also have e-books that allow them to be relevant not only in content but also with medium.

“I think that dedication, that passion to serve and protect the rights of children, survival and development, protection and participation, deserves a round of applause for our partners,” Garcia said. (Tita Roces)
