San Carlos trounces Mangaldan, 102-94

1st INTER-LGU UNITY GAMES BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT

 

LEAGUE’s title contender San Carlos City successfully hang on through all the four quarters to trounce the spirited Mangaldan team, 102-94, held at Calasiao Sports Complex on July 14, to stay on hunt for a semifinal slot in the First Pangasinan Inter-LGU Unity Games quarterfinal matches.

Spearheaded by veteran Renato Dizon converting 21 points, eight of them in the crucial fourth and final period, the boys of Mayor Joseres Resuello slowly but surely protected the front in the first three junctures, 26-20, 44-42, and 74-65.

They finished off their foes convincingly with UPang former dribbler Leo Gubatan at the helm in the fourth period to score all his 11 marks in the last quarter alone that made the big difference in the game. Lordwin Tamondong and Jose Estabillo contributed 13 and 11 points, respectively.

San Carlos now totes three wins with single loss tying co-front runners Alaminos City, Urdaneta City and Bugallon.

Mangaldan ex-UPang cager Antonio Mejia, Jr. and Cris Morales had a team high 20 points apiece while Norman Cerezo contributed 16 marks.

Mangaldan now cards two wins and two loses and have to win all their three succeeding assignments against Pozorrubio, Bugallon and Bayambang to stay in contention.

At presstime (July 21), skirmishes have resumed between Urdaneta and Alaminos. (Jesus Garcia, Jr.)
