PANGASINAN WAR ON DRUGS TALLY

LINGAYEN–Some 20,136 drug personalities have surrendered to Pangasinan police to date since the war on drugs was declared by President Duterte.

P/Chief Inspector Norman Florentino, head of the Police Community Relations Branch and spokesperson of the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office, said Monday that leaves 1,023 of the original 21,159 drug personalities identified at the beginning of the anti-illegal drugs campaign still to be accounted for.

However Florentino clarified that being added to the 1,023 being hunted down are the emerging drug personalities as well.

Out of the 1,364 barangays in Pangasinan, 1,270 were originally affected while 94 were unaffected.

Today 1,111 barangays across Pangasinan have been drug-cleared, leaving only

159 barangays remain uncleared.

However, PDEA earlier confirmed that it has only validated 226 barangays out of the 1,111 barangays cleared by PNP.

Only Alaminos City, Agno and Laoac have been validated to by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) as drug-cleared towns.

Sto. Tomas is in a different category, being unaffected by drugs for many years to date, Florentino said, adding that the status of towns of San Nicolas, Anda, Burgos, Dasol, Mabini, Aguilar, Sison and San Quintin as drug-cleared remain to be validated by PDEA.

Based on monitoring reports from town police stations and Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council, only about one percent of the total number of self-confessed drug personalities that surrendered have returned to their old habit of using or peddling illegal drugs in Pangasinan, and are again listed in the province’s drug watch list.

Florentino said the PPPO has given itself until December “to account for those who have not yet surrendered”, to determine if they have been rehabilitated or presently  undergoing rehabilitation, or known to be dead, or have transferred residences, or in jail.

He said drug personalities that have been proven they have been totally rehabilitated are ‘de-listed’ and are no longer monitored. (Tita Roces)
