THE public schools division in Pangasinan, together with other schools in the region, launched a campaign for the donation of ‘learner’s kits’ for displaced students in war-torn Marawi City.

DepEd Pangasinan Division 1 has raised 1,000 learner kits while San Carlos City, Pangasinan Division Office turned over 586.

Both Superintendents Dr. Maria Celia Junio-Fernandez and Sheila Marie Primicias, of Pangasinan Division 1 and San Carlos City respectively, said the donations were launched per the DepEd Memorandum No. 98, s. 2017, Emergency Measures in response to the Marawi City situation that announced a donation campaign period (June 27 – July 7, 2017) for Learners’ Kits for the affected learners in Marawi City and the rest of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

Fernandez said each principal was given the discretion how to meet their targets.

Aside from the support of DepEd officials and stakeholders, part of the fund for the learner kits was provided by local funds, Fernandez said

Primicias posted in her Facebook account “We had a conservative estimate of 300 Learner’s Kit for Marawi but there was outpouring of support and blessings. SDO SCCP was able to resource 586 kits. To God be the glory and honor.”

She added that even small schools gave their share.

The kits donated by San Carlos City were composed of bags, notebooks, umbrellas, ballpens, plastic envelopes and pillows worth P1,000.

The San Carlos donation was sent on July 9 while Division 1 will send its donation on July 19, Sunday. A truck of the city government here provided by Mayor Joseres Resuello delivered the kits to DepEd Central Office.

Meanwhile, Fernandez said Pangasinan Division 1already accepted ten transferees from Marawi whose’ affected by the conflicts.

She said, they assisted and accepted the transferees affected in Marawi unconditionally, without requiring credentials or school forms as ordered by the DepEd National Office. (Tita Roces/Nora Dominguez)
