Motorcycle theft dies in armed encounter

A motorcycle theft was shot dead in an armed encounter with pursuing members of the Dagupan police on Claveria Road in Sitio Looban, Barangay Pogo Grande here at about 11:22 p.m. of June 30.

The police said the suspect, who remains unidentified, stole a motorcycle parked at the Dagupan City plaza owned by Joelle Ronn McVea, 34, a businessman, of Dagupan City.

The police set up choke points in every entry and exit points of the city upon receipt of the report from McVea.

The suspect, tried to slip through check point in Barangay Malued, prompting lawmen promptly gave chase in their motorcycles.

When the suspect was cornered, he drew his handgun and opened fire at the approaching policemen. Lawmen returned the fire and neutralized the suspect.

He was rushed to the Region 1 Medical Center by the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council’s ambulance but was declared dead on arrival.

Recovered from the suspect was a loaded Cal .38 revolver and the stolen single motorcycle with license plate no. AU-29984, a wallet and a sling bag containing two screw drivers, assorted keys, two bullets and a sachet of shabu. (Leonardo Micua)
