Dagupan gearing to become cleanest and greenest city

THREE of 10 new mini-garbage trucks bought by the city government to effect a color-coded garbage collection plan in the city were presented to the public by Mayor Belen T. Fernandez during the flag-raising ceremony at the city plaza on Monday, July 3.

The purchase of the mini-dump trucks, which will be under the supervision of the Waste Management Division (WMD), formed part of the city’s objective to have a cleanest and greenest city in its bid to finally end the more than 50-year old garbage problem of Dagupan.
“Each of the mini-dump truck will perform different tasks under our color-coded garage collection as two or three of these will be designated to collect residual, biodegradable and non-biodegradable wastes in the city,” said Fernandez.
The city is now reaping the benefits from the recently purchased bailey machine as attested by WMD head Ronaldo De Guzman because this is now being used to compress the city’s plastic wastes.
“We do not need to secure a loan to resolve our problem on wastes because while we are doing well in managing our financial resources, we were able to look for some aids from the different national government agencies and private sectors so we can deliver the service that our people deserve,” said Fernandez.
Mayor Fernandez believes that the Waste to Energy facility, when it becomes operational, will resolve the city’s long problem on wastes and will even provide job opportunities to the scavengers and their families long been depending on the city’s dumpsite.
