P100K REWARD FOR INFO

BASISTA–A provincial board member has offered a P100,000 cash reward to anyone who could offer vital information that will lead to the arrest of suspect/s in the rape-slay of a Grade 12 student here.

Second District Board Member Raul Sison said he’s offering the cash reward personally “to give justice to the gruesome rape-slay of Joana Rose Español”.

Español, 17, of Barangay Mapolopolo this town, was discovered dead in a pond along Sitio Ambalingit, Barangay Dumpay here on July 15, three days after she failed to go home from her class in Dumpay National High School.

Sison, who has joined the police and National Bureau Investigations in their probes, said Español bore signs she was raped and had bruises and contusions, especially on her stomach which indicated she was beaten up as well by the suspect/s.

He took pity the victim’s family whose father works as a security guard and her mother, a house helper, Sison shouldered the burial expenses of the victim.

Sison who is chairman of the provincial board’s Committee on Children, learned about Joana’s death when her decomposing body was brought to a funeral parlor in his hometown Urbiztondo and became the subject of talks among residents.

Joana’s remains were buried Thursday and Sison was among the mourners who joined the funeral.

Sison said he does not know anything about Joana or her family but is keen on helping them “because justice must be served”.

Sison appealed to the people of this town who may have information that would lead to the arrest of the suspect/s to cooperate with the police and solve the crime the soonest possible time.

The police here initially investigated 45 workers in an ongoing construction of a big house about 150 meters away from the place where Joana’s body was found floating. These men underwent buccal swabbing on July 17, a way to collect DNA through their saliva with the use of cotton buds.

The samples taken were submitted to the Camp Crame for laboratory analysis and will be matched from samples of sperm cells found inside Joana.

The buccal swab is expected to reveal who among them could be the two men suspected to be the ones who raped and killed her.

Reports said there were two construction workers in the area who were allegedly interested to get the cellular phone number of Español and had a crush on her.

“We will not stop until we pin down who the suspects are,” Sison said. (Tita Roces)
