TO secure the welfare of consumers in Dagupan City, the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) adopted a resolution requesting Mayor Belen Fernandez to direct the City Health Officer to strictly implement an ordinance mandating the monitoring, evaluation and regulation of all water refilling stations, water sellers, bulk water delivery tankers and other similar establishments supplying water for public consumption in Dagupan.

Councilor Dennis Canto said the strict implementation of the ordinance will go a long way in preventing the rise or occurrence of Acute Gastro Enteritis (AGE) among residents.

Ordinance No. 1913-2008 directs all water refilling stations, water sellers, bulk water delivery tankers and other similar establishments to submit their product for water examination in a Department of Health-accredited water testing and analysis laboratory.

The council suspects it is not being complied with strictly in the city.

Under the ordinance, the schedule of testing shall be monthly for the Bacteriological Examination and Coliform Screening, and every six months for the Physical and Chemical and Chlorine Residual Test.

In another resolution, the SP reiterated its request to Mayor Fernandez to prioritize the purchase of 31 units of fogging machines to be distributed to all the barangays.

It noted that the stagnant water usually created by the current rainy season could become breeding ground for mosquitoes and periodic fumigation can help eliminate the prevent occurrence of dengue, chikungunya and other dreadful diseases. (Leonardo Micua)
