LINGAYEN—There are seven sets of identical twins attending Grade 7 class at the Pangasinan School of Arts and Trade (PSAT) whose individual performance in the class has become a point of interest in the school.

Referred to as Lucky 7 in Grade 7 by the class adviser, Fershale Belen, the twins are Lyrica and Lyrian Tiangson, Caroline and Kimberly Vinluan, Aldrin and Alvin Gonzales, Christer and Christian Lim, Jan Kian and Jan Rian Tan, James Christian and James Christopher Rapiz, Anthony John and Anthony Jay Caronongan.

They all attend class Section Jack of Grade 7 composed of 61 students.

Belen said she learned about having seven sets of twins in her class three days prior to the start of the new school year on June 2.

During their first day in school in Grade 7, the twins sat beside each other.

“I was a bit confused in the beginning,” Belen said and later arranged twins two or three seats apart from their respective twin sister/brother for easier recognition.

She noted that the twins often wear same style of clothes and it helped that that they wore different colors of shoes, but she also had to remember birthmarks, length of hair or height.

She said she asked her students to wear nametags.

The twins came from different schools in their elementary grades. The Tiangsons are from Pangapisan, Lingayen, the Vinluans from Malindong, Binmaley, the Gonzalezes from Maramba Blvd, Lingayen, the Lims from Baay, Lingayen, the Tans from Aplaya in Pangapisan, Lingayen, the Rapizes from Bañaga, Bugallon and the Caronongans from San Isidro Norte, Binmaley.

Most of them said they chose to study in PSAT because of the influence of their cousins, siblings or parents.

In interviews, the twin sets admitted they are not in competition with each other because they acknowledge that each one excels in different subjects.

To underscore their differences despite their identical appearance, most have different ambitions in life. For instance, Lyrica wants to be a chef while her twin Lyrian wants to be a cosmetologist but both Aldrin and Alvin want to be police officers someday.

The Caronongans said they also have twin uncles.

The Lucky 7 rejected the notion that when their twin sister or brother is sick, they also become ill. “Nagkakahawaan na lang,” they said.

Their school principal, Ferdinand Bravo, said having seven sets of twins in one class is in itself unique and amazing.

“Maybe, we could land a Guinness World Records title for this,” he added. (Eva Visperas)
