PNP busts criminal group, seizes high-powered guns

ONE-TIME, BIG TIME

BALUNGAO — Six persons including a barangay chairman, wanted for various crimes and believed to be members of a group operating in Easter Pangasinan were arrested and various high powered firearms and ammunition were seized from them by the joint police operatives.

P/Sr. Superintendent Ronald Lee, provincial police director, identified those arrested as Efren Urmita, Midi Lilagan, Joel Lilagan, Christopher Oria, Julito Asuncion and Wilson Gaon. All were subjects of arrest and warrants.

The arresting team was composed of elements from the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office, Regional Intelligence Unit, Provincial CIDG, Provincial Public Safety Company and Balungao Police Station 4 in another ‘One-Time, Big Time’ operation last Thursday, June 15 in Barangay San Julian, Balungao town.

From Urmita, confiscated were one M16 Armalite rifle, one 9mm Beretta, one hand grenade, one silencer for 9mm and assorted ammunitions.

From Wilson Gaon, a barangay chairman, confiscated were 2  cal .45 pistols with inserted magazine with 45 bullets.

From Midi Lilagan, seized from were one cal. 45 pistol with 12 bullets and bulletproof vest.

From Joel Lilagan, seized were one cal. 45 colt, one cal. 9mm pistol and one cal. 38 revolver.

From Oria, confiscated were one cal .45 m1911 with one magazine, one homemade cal. 22 with magazine.

From Asuncion, confiscated from him were 4 bullets for of 5.56 mm and one rifle grenade.

Gerry Ilagan tagged as target number 1 is still at large.

All are suspected members of a criminal group operating in Eastern Pangasinan.

Lee said the operation was in connection to the intensified campaign against loose firearms and criminal groups in the province. (Nora Dominguez/Tita Roces)
