Motorcyclist shot dead in encounter with cops 

MANGALDAN—A still unidentified motorcycle rider died when he shot it out with policemen manning a checkpoint along the national highway in Barangay Anolid, Mangaldan Friday, June 15 at 11:45 p.m.

According to the Mangaldan police, the unidentified motorcyclist ignored policemen who flagged him down. Instead, he accelerated his motorcycle and bumped the checkpoint signage causing him to fall down.

When policemen approached the suspect, he drew his handgun and shot at the lawmen. He was neutralized when policemen retaliated, hitting him in different parts of his body.

P/Chief Inspector Benny Centino, deputy chief of police of Mangaldan, said no policeman was hurt during the firefight.

He said the identity of the suspect is yet being determined as he did not carry any identification papers.

The suspect was immediately brought to Medical Centrum Hospital in Dagupan City for treatment where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Recovered from the crime scene were a cal. 38 revolver without serial number loaded with three bullets and three fired cartridge cases in its cylinder and two heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing white crystalline substance placed in a brown coin purse was found inside the u-box of the motorcycle.

Recovered pieces of evidence were brought to PNP Crime Laboratory Office in Urdaneta City while the cadaver was brought to Funeral Sur in Mapandan town. (Leonardo Micua)
