FORMER Senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said he is open to joining the cabinet of President Duterte but admitted he has not received any invitation from the Chief Executive.

He affirmed this when he spoke to newsmen shortly after addressing the 38th Commencement Exercises of the Pangasinan State University at the CSI Stadia in Dagupan City on Wednesday.

“In my opinion, there is no need to drop the protest (against Vice President Leni Robredo) I filed with the Presidential Electoral Tribunal if I join the government. It is only if I run for an election that I may do that,” said Marcos.

“Yes, of course. I can help the present administration. We are very supportive of the President. I have full trust and confidence in him and if he believes that I can be of help, I will be happy to be part of his administration” he said.

Marcos added, “I am still strong, I think I can contribute something to this administration.”

But he confessed that he has not received any invitation from the President although in the past there was a report that Mr. Duterte was reserving the DILG portfolio to him.

It is only when one is running for a public office that this may happen, he added.

“I hope that after July 11, the processes will now continue till the case is resolved,” Marcos told newsmen.

He said the case he filed before the PET is going to be the first one to be decided by the body since the election protests of Senator Loren Legarda against then Vice President Noli de Castro, and then Secretary Manuel Roxas III against then Vice President Jejomar Binay were not continued.

He challenged the camp of Ms. Robredo to stop opposing the recount to expedite the proceedings so the people will know who the real winner is in the last election for vice president. (Leonardo Micua)
