THE Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) said shellfishes gathered from Alaminos City, Bani, Bolinao, Anda and Sual in Pangasinan “are free from toxic red tide and are safe for human consumption”.

BFAR Region 1 Director Nestor Domenden said that this was based on Shellfish Bulletin No. 18 issued on June 9, 2017 on the result of the laboratory analyses conducted by said agency that found crabs, shrimps, and seashells like mussels and oysters gathered from the said coastal areas are red tide-free.

He said that BFAR, in coordination with local government units, continue to carry out harmful algal bloom monitoring in identified coastal waters as precautionary measure in safeguarding public health and promoting shellfish products. (Tita Roces)
