BOLINAO—The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) has lifted the shellfish ban in the coastal waters of Anda and Bolinao towns.

In its Shellfish Bulletin No. 17 issued on May 26, BFAR Region 1 Director Nestor Domenden said that samples collected from the said coastal areas are already negative of red tide “following three consecutive weeks monitoring, sampling and laboratory analysis of waters from Anda and Bolinao, Pangasinan with negative result of Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning (PSP).”

Domenden added that gathering, harvesting and marketing of shellfishes, particularly oysters and mussels from the said areas are now permitted.

BFAR said coastal waters of Alaminos, Wawa in Bani and Sual remain safe from paralytic shellfish poisoning.

He assured they are continuously monitoring the affected coastal waters to safeguard public health and protect the shellfish industry. (Tita Roces/Nora Dominguez)
