Alaminos, Bugallon & Urbiztondo lead LGU Unity Games

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan—Teams Alaminos City, Bugallon and Urbiztondo topped the rankings and remained unbeaten in the elimination rounds of the 1st Pangasinan Inter-LGU Unity Games Basketball Tournament, another sports project of Gov. Amado “Pogi” I. Espino III.

Alaminos team scored its sixth win after its opponent—Binmaley team—lost by default on May 26 at the Manaog gymnasium. The former incurred zero loss yet as of latest standing making them the lead team in Division 1 of the Western Conference. Next in rank of the same division is Team Bugallon with 5-0 (win-loss) standing.

Team Urbiztondo, on the other hand, emerged as the unbeaten team in Division II with 6-0 (win-loss) standing. For Division 1 of the Eastern Conference, Pozorrubio team shared the same 4-1 standing with Bayambang and Urdaneta City teams after the latter two won against San Fabian and Mangaldan teams, respectively, last May 25.

The basketball tournament between LGUs opened last March 16 by Governor Espino who expressed optimism that the sports event will not only promote healthy lifestyle among the officials and employees but will also foster camaraderie and warm rapport among them.

The following are the team standings (win-loss) for Division 1 (Western Conference) as of May 26: 1) Alaminos City, 6-0; 2) Bugallon, 5-0; 3) San Carlos City, 3-1; 4) Sta. Barbara, 3-2; 5) Calasiao, 3-3; 6) Binmaley, 1-4; 7) Mangatarem, 0-5; 8) Sual, 0-6.

For Division 1 (Eastern Conference): 1) Pozorrubio, 4-1; 2) Bayambang, 4-1; 3) Urdaneta City, 4-1; 4) Mangaldan, 3-2; 5) Umingan, 3-2; 6) San Nicolas, 2-3; 7) Malasiqui, 0-5; 8) San Fabian, 0-5.

Division II team rankings, on the other hand, include the following: 1) Urbiztondo, 6-0; 2) Aguilar, 6-1; 3) Sta. Maria, 5-1; 4) Basista, 3-3; 5) Sison, 3-3; 6) Labrador, 1-4; 7) Mapandan, 1-5; 8) Laoac, 1-5; 9) Bautista, 0-5.

The next games will be conducted on June 1 and 2 at the San Nicolas gymnasium with the following schedule: June 1- Urbiztondo vs Laoac; Pozorrubio vs Bayambang; Umingan vs San Nicolas; Mapandan vs Basista; San Carlos City vs Bugallon. June 2- Malasiqui vs San Fabian; Sta. Barbara vs Binmaley; Mangatarem vs Sual; Sta. Maria vs Labrador; Bautista vs Sison. (Ruby R. Bernardino)
