Wanted: 120 new Dagupan college scholars

APPLICANTS for 120 new college scholarships trooped to the Dagupan City museum after Mayor Belen Fernandez announced that the Dagupan City government will be taking in 120 college scholars to replace the slots of 120 city scholars who have graduated from their four-year course this year.

Those who have graduated were the first batch of scholars supported by the city government in 2014 under her administration.

So far, there are 500 college scholars of Dagupan who are sons and daughters of indigent families who want to pursue their college education.

She said the prospective scholars, accompanied by their respective parents, must submit their applications and intent to avail of the scholarship to the city hall where they will be evaluated and interviewed by a panel.

The city’s scholars are enrolled in a course of their choice in any private college and university in Dagupan.

Fernandez said the city has allotted P20 million for college scholarships of Dagupan youth, up from P5 million in 2014. P10 million in 2015 and P15 million in 2016.

She said she was overwhelmed with pride on seeing the first 120 initial scholars graduate and are now looking forward to a a gainful employment in order to help their families.
