Stores warned vs. using candies as change

THE Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Provincial Office warned

business establishments who do not return exact change to their costumers.

Marjorie Loresco of DTI Pangasinan said Republic Act 10909 or the Shortchanging Act of 2016 was passed as a law last December 2016 to protect the consumers that maybe victims of shortchange.

A case was already filed against one store that used candies as change. “Candies are not money,” she said citing the law.

Meanwhile, she advised consumers to help the situation by bringing small coins that they can use to pay establishments. She said her office are ready to receive complaints. (Nora Dominguez)
