PH’S 2ND TOP DRUG TARGET

ASINGAN – An assault team from the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office arrested on April 27 a police officer who was tagged as the Philippines’ No. 2 high-value target for illegal drugs after he was included in the list of drug suspects made public by President Rodrigo Duterte.

Arrested in his residence in Barangay Macalong, Asingan was SPO1 Julius Calinang Rosales. Until his arrest, he was desk officer at the Natividad town’s police station.

P/Sr. Supt. Ronald Oliver Lee, Pangasinan police director said, Rosales was included in the province’s watch list for his alleged involvement in the illegal drug trade.

The operation was conducted based on search warrants issued against him for violation of Republic Act nos. 10591 and 9165 illegal possession of firearms and ammunition and for illegal drugs respectively.

P/Chief Inspector Norman Florentino, chief of community relations, said Rosales has long been in the watch list as protector of illegal drugs and an active dealer himself.

According to Florentino, Rosales was among those who surrendered to the regional police office last July 2016 but continued monitoring of his activities revealed he continued his drug trade in Pangasinan.

Rosales, however, denied this saying he is a former member of the police’s anti-illegal drugs unit which he served for more than 10 years and it was just normal that he is being linked on illegal drugs.

He said in Flipino, “Walang katotohanan ito,” adding that he was formerly assigned to undertake intelligence duty aside from being in anti-drugs unit.

“I am not involved in illegal drug trade. You know how I live,” he said while showing his house.

A caliber .45 pistol, an M203 grenade, and several packets of shabu were found by the raiders in the house of Rosales.

The Rosales and the seized guns and drugs were brought to Asingan Police Station for proper disposition.

However, Rosales said all these were planted by the raiders.

Meanwhile, Lee called on all policemen to now severe their links to illegal drugs and surrender to the authorities.

He called on all those with derogatory records to now surrender and argue their case in court. (Tita Roces/Leonardo Micua)
