THE ongoing “Brigada Eskwela” in Dagupan City this year is far bigger than last year that generated P17-million worth of improvements, one of the biggest in the entire country.

This was bared by Dr. Ma. Venus Estolino, chief of the Curriculum Implementation Division of the City Schools Division during the KBP Forum here on Thursday.

She described the amount of manhours delivered by stakeholders in accomplishing specific tasks and use and donation of materials, i.e., paints, nails, galvanized iron sheets , etc.

The Dagupan School Division was cited last year for having produced the biggest amount of contributions from stakeholders, said Dr. Liberty Roxas, another official of the city schools division.

Estolino said the value of this year’s efforts will be submitted to the Department of Education Central Office that  gives out awards for the best performance in Brigada Eskwela.

Brigada Eswela in Dagupan was launched jointly by Mayor Belen Fernandez and City Schools Division Froserfina Bravo last May 12 at the Dagupan City National High School.

Estolino said that Brigada Eskwela in the city has been going on all year round, not  few days before the opening of schools because the schools undertake the improvement projects on their own.

The stakeholders include parents, members of the business community, non-government organizations and other members of the community.

Among those that mobilized for this year’s Brigada Eskwela were the KBP-Pangasinan chapter and the Pangasinan Red Cross, alumni chapters here and overseas.

Among the donations received were 70 electric fans to the East Central Integrated School in Dagupan by the Rodriguez family.

The Second Pangasinan engineering district has been doing vegetation clearing, repair of dilapidated rooms, unclogging of canals, according to Bernardo Caronongan.

After Brigada Eskwela, DPWH will continue to help DepEd in implementing “Balik Eskwela” repairing school buildings and clearing the highways.

Meanwhile, the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) passed a resolution urging the city’s business community, people’s organizations, including business and professional groups in the city to support the “Brigada Eskwela” as part of their corporate social responsibility.

The resolution was contained in a draft resolution authored by Councilor Jose Netu Tamayo in the May 15th session of the SP. (Leonardo Micua)
