LINGAYEN –Tragedy struck a family from San Carlos City when the father and his two daughters drowned in the Lingayen Beach at 1:00 p.m. last April 24.

The police identified the victims as Lorenzo Reyes, 44; and his two daughters Kim Alya, 16; and Pia, 12.

A nephew of Reyes, Jimboy Pineda, 17, was retrieved in time by members of the Water and Rescue (WASAR) team of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) and was saved.

Reyes and his two daughters were already dead when they were rushed to a local hospital.

Investigation showed the victims were swept from a safe area in the beach where they were swimming by a rip current that brought them to the deeper portion of the sea where they drowned.

The victims were reportedly swimming outside the one-kilometer area secured by PDRRMO’s WASAR.

Avenix Arenas, PDRRMO spokesperson, said holiday-seekers are always warned not to swim beyond the secured area of the beach but the victims did not heed the warning. (Leonardo Micua)
