URDANETA CITY—A member of a gun-for-hire group died while another was arrested in an armed encounter with policemen at around 12:45 a.m. of April 11 along Barangay Nancayasan this city.

P/Superintendent Neil Miro, newly designated acting-police chief here, identified the fatality as Udang Reyes who was rushed to Urdaneta District Hospital but was declared dead on arrival by his attending physician.

Reyes’ companion, Eric Serain, was arrested during the operation.

No one was hurt among the police operatives.

Miro said the two suspects are members of Pong Reyes and Geovannie Gun-For-Hire Group also allegedly involved in extortion activities.

A concerned citizen reported to the policemen their modus operandi prompting the police to set up an entrapment operation.

The two sensed they were transacting with policemen and one of them fired at the operatives.

An exchange of gunfire ensued.

The lawmen seized a caliber .38 revolver and an inquest proceeding for filing of appropriate case is readied against Serain. (Tita Roces)
