Comelec all set for October elections

SOME 1.7 million registered voters are expected to troop to the polls if the Sanggunian Kabataan (SK) and Barangay elections will be held on October 23 this year.

Lawyer Marino Salas, Provincial Election Supervisor said Comelec is all systems go for the manual elections this October unless Congress will amend the law to postpone or will dissolve the law stating the October 23, 2017 elections.

He said whatever will be decided by Congress, Comelec is ready to comply, meanwhile, registration for new voters will continue until April 29, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.

Based on the data of Comelec office in Pangasinan, there are now 37,000 new registered voters in the age bracket of 15 to 17 years old and 27,000 new registered voters aged 18 and above.

Salas said his office will continue the registration process in secondary schools to campaign for registration among grade 10 and 11 students or 15 to 17 years old.

Comelec has already visited 1,364 barangays in the province for the special registration process to ensure that all the target voters can register.

On May 15, their will be an election regulatory board meeting to cleanse the record of voters from the transferees to deceased voters. (Nora Dominguez)
