10 drown during 4-day holiday

HOLY WEEK OBSERVANCE

LINGAYEN—The four-day holiday for the observance of Holy Week left 10 persons dead in separate drowning incidents in beaches and rivers, many of whom were reportedly drunk.

Oliver Abaoag, Grade 1 pupil of Poblacion District II of Pozorrubio, drowned in a swimming pool of a resort in Tavera West Poblacion District 1 of said town.

He was reportedly last seen playing at the pool. His relatives rushed him to Pozorrubio Community Hospital but he was declared dead on arrival by his attending physician.

Marjun Alnas, 26, of Barangay Aringin, Moncada, Tarlac, was reportedly drunk when he went diving in a deep portion of Agno River in Barangay Laoac, Alcala. The town’s Municipal Disaster Rescue team retrieved Alnas’ body and was pronounced dead on arrival at the Rural Health Unit.

Meanwhile, swimmers in Limmingaleng River in San Jacinto town found Artemio Villegas, 35, resident of said Barangay Sta. Cruz lifeless underwater pinned down by a stone. He was reportedly last seen having drinking spree with his relatives at the vicinity of the river.

In Lingayen town, a construction worker identified as Louie Aviles, 34, resident of Barangay Domalandan East drowned in the Agno River under the Domalandan Bridge when he attempted to cross the river to reach the other side after a drinking spree.

Meanwhile, on April 15, Darwin Castrence, 31, of Barangay Mal-ong, Anda town drowned at the seawater of Tondol Beach. He went out to swim after joining a

drinking spree with his friends.

In Alaminos City, Kenneth Camba, 15, resident of Barangay Amangbangan, was in the company of his relatives when he drowned at the Bagbag Beach.

Mario Sandoval, 46, of Barangay Away, San Jacinto town, lost his one-year-old son Jun Rey while they were swimming in the two to three-meters deep area in Malasin River.

In San Fabian town, Desimprado Garcia, 81, of Barangay Labuan, San Quintin town, drowned while swimming at the beach in Barangay Nibaliw West. She was believed to have suffered heart attack aggravated by the intense hot weather.

In Mabini town, Jose Supangan, 18, of Sitio Cuala, Barangay Tagudin, drowned on April 16 in the Balincaguing River while trying to cross the river by swimming.

Noel Vino, 49, resident of Poblacion, Balungao, was reportedly drunk when he drowned in the Agno River in Barangay Sta. Rosa, Sta Maria. Responding policemen discovered the victim’s body near the riverside. (Tita Roces)
