Three teams gain semi-final berths

LINGAYEN – The teams of Manaoag and Urdaneta City in Group B have secured sure spots in the semi-final games of the 1st Governor’s Cup Inter-Town Basketball Tournament after succeeding in their outings during the quarterfinal round of the cagefest held on March 12 at Tayug gymnasium.

Manaoag trounced Lingayen, 114-91, to remain unbeaten at 5-0, while Urdaneta clobbered Bayambang, 115-107, to take solo second in same group with 5-1 card.

If Manaoag loses its final game against Labrador on March 18, the pilgrimage team will gain a score of 5-1.

Another possible tie-break game will be held to determine the top spot between Group B’s Manaoag and Urdaneta City to play against the second placer of Group A during the crossover semi-finals.

Binmaley, which leads Group B standings, earlier secured a definite slot in the semi-finals with 5-1 win-loss record, but can share the top spot with Alaminos City if the Hundred Island team wins against Villasis on March 18.

If, however, Alaminos City’s loses to Villasis (3-2), both teams will get deadlocked at 4-2.

In the meantime, if Mangaldan defeats Asingan in its last outing on March 18, there will be a 3-team logjam for second place in Group A, which can be settled by a tie break.

Other team standings in group B are: Calasiao (4-2), Sto. Tomas (3-2), Lingayen (2-3), Tayug (1-4), Bayambang (1-4), and Labrador (0-5).

Meanwhile, final scores for Group A teams that competed in the recent outing at the Ramon J. Guico Sports and Civic Center in Binalonan town are as follows: Game 1- Alaminos City (74) vs San Manuel (54); Game 2-Malasiqui (94) vs Asingan (91); Game 3-Mangaldan (80) vs Bugallon (69).
