LESSONS LEARNED FROM WAR ON DRUGS

LAOAC— The Philippine National Police has learned enough and good lessons from its war on drugs to carry on a more effective, focused campaign.

Chief PNP, Director-General Ronald dela Rosa, gave the assurance that the campaign against illegal drugs will be “a more focused, more careful approach this time” with the resumption of their suspended operations.

Dela Rosa, who was here Thursday for the inauguration of the town’s new police station as part of the town fiesta celebration, told local newsmen that plans for the drug war re-launch are now in the works.

“They’re now being crafted well,” he said, adding that the renewed campaign on illegal drugs will be resumed “maybe this weekend”.

He said he told police commanders “to make sure this continuation will not have bad police elements.”

“They have to make sure all the drug enforcement units at all levels of command have police with integrity and beyond question,” he intoned even as he warned to be wary of civilians who would take advantage of the drive for their personal agenda.

Sinakyan ng mga masasamang loob yung ating kampanya. We must be careful this time,” he said, recalling how some rogue policemen took advantage of the operation for their personal and selfish interests that irked President Rodrigo Duterte and led to the removal from the PNP drug operations.

He said he’s elated after the President has given the go signal for the PNP to resume its mission in the drug operations.

“As far as he (Duterte) is concerned, he has already lifted the suspension, you can go ahead he told me,” Dela Rosa said.

Dela Rosa acknowledged that the suspension of their drug operations resulted in the proliferation of drugs and upsurge of illegal drugs activity.

He also pointed out, “Nobody in this world would like the drug war to be bloody but since we are engaged in war, we can’t do anything to contain it”.

“If they fight, we can’t do anything,” he said.

He said their internal cleansing of their ranks will continue as some were reinstated to police service possibly using ‘connections’ inside PNP.

Meanwhile, Dela Rosa lauded Laoac, Pangasinan Mayor Silverio Alarcio Jr. for the declaration of his town as drug-free. (Tita Roces)
