AFTER its inauguration and blessing on January 19, the city’s Women Center at Poblacion Oeste hosted a seminar on interpersonal relationships in the workplace for women as part of the celebration of the National Women’s Month, the very first seminar conducted at the center.

The seminar was attended by members of the Local Council for Women, Samahan ng Kababaihan ng Dagupan, Barangay Service Point Officers, Barangay Nutrition Scholars and Barangay Health Workers.

It was facilitated by the City Social Welfare and Development Office headed by Leah L. Aquino, in collaboration with the Office of the City Mayor and the Rotary Club of Uptown Dagupan headed by Perla Tañedo.

In her message, Mayor Fernandez noted that from the time the city became serious in the campaign against violence on women and children, which led to the construction of the Women Center, the center is yet to receive victims of abuses.

“Until now, we have not yet received a victim of abuse in our center. Maybe because they became aware that we already have a center for battered and abuse women in our city and that we are serious in protecting them. Nevertheless, we will not stop and we will continue with our campaign on protecting the rights of our women and our children,” said Fernandez.

Fernandez encouraged the participants to be active partners of the city in its campaign in fighting for the rights of women in the city.

“This Women Center has been my dream since I was still the vice-mayor. It’s a dream come true for me,” she said.

Fernandez promised she will organize more seminars for women to ensure that they are empowered and to make change work for women.

“In fact in our organizational charts at the city hall alone, most women are occupying key positions and this is due to the fact that they are good and hardworking, dedicated and passionate in delivering services to our city,” said Fernandez. (Joseph C. Bacani/CIO)
