Beatrice, 69, and Nick, 56, tie the knot finally

MAY-DECEMBER RELATIONSHIP IN DAGUPAN

IF you still don’t believe that love is blind, believe it.

Beatrice Flores, 69, married her long-time boyfriend, Nick Tablada, 56, in civil rites officiated by Dagupan City Mayor Belen Fernandez February 27, Monday afternoon.

It was a marriage founded on true love, the kind that knows no difference in age or physical looks.

Nick and Beatrice, too much in love.

Tablada said they had planned on February 14, the day for lovers, but the mayor was not available. They are happy that they still made it before the love-month ended.

Flores said she and Tablada have been living together for six years and both decided to tie the knot just to end nasty comments from people who don’t understand and refuse to accept that theirs is a real romance.

She said some refer to her as Tablada’s mistress but they know “he is single and I am a widow.”

Flores works as vendor of ukay-ukay (used clothing) while Tablada is a caretaker of fighting cocks.

During their wedding ceremony, some students who witnessed their union cheered them on, clapping their hands. The couple smiled back.

Their love story blossomed after joining funeral corteges initially of departed neighbors in Barangay Calmay together.

Flores said she loves Tablada for what he is, despite his physical disability while he describes her as someone “so loving and caring.”

“I really love him much,” she said and maintained their age difference never bothered her.

Flores said her children approve of Tablada whom they have learned to respect, who in turn has shown affection for her children.

She good-naturedly laughed when asked about the possibility of having kids by Tablada. “He told me, love you forever although we don’t have kids of our own,” Flores said, quoting her husband. (Tita Roces)
