Balon Dagupan Children’s Choir is Ani Ng Dangal awardee

THE Balon Dagupan Children’s Choir was honored by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts’ (NCCA) in the 9th Ani ng Dangal awarding ceremonies last February 27 at the Bureau of the Treasury main office in Intramuros, Manila.

The Ani ng Dangal Award is an annual event that recognizes artists who have earned international awards and accolades during the past year. It serves as the closing activity on the NCCA’s celebration on the 2017 National Arts Month.

This year, 71 artists and works from different fields of the arts – 36 for cinema, 16 for dance, one for dramatic arts, one for literary arts, seven for music and 10 for visual arts – were honored by the NCCA headed by its chairman, National Artist for Literature Virgilio Almario and Officer-In-Charge Executive Director Marichu Tellano.

The Balon Dagupan Children’s Choir (BDCC) was among the seven awardees for music along with the famous Philippine Madrigal Singers.

Other awardees include popular actor John Lloyd Cruz and veteran actress Jaclyn Jose.

The BDCC won the Malaysia International Children Chorale Festival 2016 on July 16 and received the Gold A Award, the highest recognition being given to a choral group for outstanding performance; the Shah Alam Mayor Award for being the overall champion; and the Most Promising Choir (Overseas) Award.

The organization of the BDCC is part of Mayor Belen T. 3 program in developing the talent of the city’s children, not just in sports but also in culture and arts. (Joseph C. Bacani/CIO)
