POSO: Dagupan will be ‘helmet-city’

EFFECTIVE February 1, Dagupan City will strictly be a ‘helmet-city’ for motorcycle riders, and that includes among motorcycle-riding traffic enforcers.

Public Order and Safety Office (POSO) chief Carlito Ocampo issued the order to his unit following his observation that a number of his unit’s 21-motorcycle-riding traffic enforcers move around without helmets.

He clarified that notwithstanding the no-helmet ordinance within city limits, riders must have their helmets with them whether they wear these or not.

A backrider without a helmet is issued a violation ticket.

He ordered the apprehension of riders without helmets with no exception.

“When it comes to discipline, we have to lead by example,” Ocampo told his unit. “Let’s do our share and together let’s make history,” he added.

To impress upon his unit that he’s serious, he had three of the motorcycle-riding traffic enforcers issued traffic violation citation tickets for riding without valid licenses and had their service vehicles impounded at the POSO headquarters.

The three can only resume their duties once they present their valid licenses. (CIO/JCB)
