WAR ON SCALAWAGS

IN compliance with the directive of the PNP leadership suspending the Project Double Barrel Alpha, Pangasinan Police immediately put on hold all illegal drug operations and promptly began effecting a reshuffle initially of town police chiefs in the province.

Acting Police Provincial Director P/Sr. Supt. Ronald Oliver Lee said, the reshuffling process, the initial step for cleansing the ranks, will be based largely on their lengths of stay and performance in the town or city.

Among the first to be relieved was P/Chief Inspector June Galingan as chief of police of Mangatarem. Lee received the relief order from Police Regional Office. He is succeeded by P/Chief Inspector Demosthenes Magnaan.

According to Lee, the regional office discovered that Galingan is facing an administrative charge and the guideline set is no police officer may hold a post if one is under investigation for an administrative case.

Lee however, did not elaborate on the nature of the case filed against Galingan.

Meanwhile, Lee maintained that the Pangasinan PNP will still assist the PDEA in clearing operations in barangay and continue monitoring the activities and rehabilitation of the drug personalities.

Lee warned the active drug personalities that they are not off the hook with the suspension of the Double Barrel Alpha. “We will continue our basic mandate as police which is to keep the public safe,” he said.

In sum, Lee described the situation as “kumbaga sa damo at muling tumubo ay tatabasin natin uli yan.

He said Pangasinan police will always lend a hand to the operations of the greatly undermanned PDEA. “We can assist in serving search warrants or warrants of arrests.”

Meanwhile, he admitted that four policemen were positively identified to be involved in the illegal drug trade, three were killed in police operations while one surrendered. (Nora Dominguez)
