LGUs urged to establish eco-protected areas

Governor Amado I. Espino, III urged municipal and city government units to establish and maintain ecological protected areas in their respective localities.
Speaking before municipal chief executives present during the induction ceremony of the new president of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) – Pangasinan Chapter held at the Capitol Resort Hotel on February 7, Governor Espino encouraged them to heed the call for environmental protection through the establishment of eco-protected areas.
Eco-protected areas support the ‘greening program’ of the provincial administration and will contribute to the over-all efforts for the preservation and conservation of natural resources as well as to mitigate climate change.
“We are doing this for the future generations,” Gov. Espino stressed as he cited Laoac town where the new LMP president hails for starting developing a ‘tree library’ where varieties of trees are grown and cultivated.
Responding to the proposal of the provincial chief executive, LMP President Silverio Alarcio, Jr. assured the all-out support of municipalities, including component cities in the province on the environmental advocacies of the provincial administration.
Alarcio said that the tree library he launched contributes in strengthening the environmental sensitivities among Laoac locals.
Commitment was also expressed by the Pangasinan Association of Water Districts, Inc. (PANAWAD) for the environmental protection thrust of the provincial administration during their induction ceremony held at the governor’s office on February 7 which was administered by governor Espino.
PANAWAD President Susan Sison of Villasis bared that their organization will lead in instilling awareness among households on conservation of water resources. /Mark Gerry Naval Oblanca
