Governor Pogi Awards 110 Irrigation Projects to Farmers

            THE provincial government led by Gov. Amado I. Espino III awarded anew some 110 units of shallow tube wells to various organized farmers associations and other agri-fishery stakeholders in Pangasinan on January 30 at the Provincial Agriculture’s Field Office in Sta. Barbara town.

To sustain the project, signing of Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the provincial government and the recipients was also conducted.

Stressing the importance of agriculture in Pangasinan, Gov. Espino said it is equally important for the present administration to exert more effort to the farming sector being one of the main sources of livelihood of Pangasinense.

As such, the governor said that the provincial government through the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPAG) is contemplating on launching more irrigation projects to assist the marginalized farmers and fisherfolks throughout the province.

Plans are also underway to revive the conduct of Farmers Festival in Pangasinan which can serve as a venue for the sector to highlight their crops and products.

Aside from granting shallow tube wells, the provincial government awarded subsidized certified palay seeds and fertilizer package to some 2,000 farmers from the third and fourth district of the province last December to help farmer beneficiaries increase their rice yield to at least one metric ton per hectare (MT/ha) during the dry cropping season of October 2016 to March 2017.

The project aimed to subsidize the 23,900 agri-relief given by the Department of Agriculture (DA) for areas with farmers who are planting during the latter part of the year.

Meanwhile, Gov. Espino assured all farmers and fisherfolks of continuous support from the provincial government to include repair and construction of the province’s irrigation facilities and equipment. (Ruby R. Bernardino)
