MALASIQUI–Former Third District Representative Ma. Rachel Arenas is the new chairperson of the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB).

President Duterte signed Arenas’ appointment last January 20 and released by Malacañang on January 30.

“Pursuant to the provisions of existing laws, you are hereby appointed CHAIRPERSON, MOVIE AND TELEVISION REVIEW AND CLASSIFICATION BOARD, for a term expiring on 30 September 2017, vice Eugenio H. Villareal,” the appointment paper read.

In an interview by Bombo Radyo Dagupan, Arenas, who officially assumed her post on Feb. 1, said that although she was surprised by her appointment she considers it a privilege to work with the President and I am very grateful for his trust and confidence in my ability to serve”.

She said she will continue the strides gained by her predecessors in the last six years in the agency and will study other improvements in policies that may be needed to adapt to changing modes.

In the past years since the time of Sen. Grace Poe, she said there have been many positive changes.

Among the changes is the policy of MTRCB that it would rather classify than censor television programs and movies.

She said that, “As a collegial body, when board members decide, we decide as one and it must be a consensus as in the past”.

Meanwhile, Arenas said she will respect the diversity of opinions of the MTRCB’s board of directors and their freedom of expression. (Tita Roces)
