A SEAFOOD processing plant in Sual town to be operated by the local government is being proposed to support the livelihood of fisherfolk.

Sual Mayor Roberto Arcinue said he is optimistic that the plan for the establishment of a seafood processing plant will earn the support of the Department of Agriculture after DA Secretary Manny Pinol initially indicated his approval during his visit to lead the turn over of various fishery projects to fisherfolk in the region.

Arcinue said the feasibility study for the seafood processing plant will be submitted soon for DA’s review and approval.

The proposal seeks to establish the processing plant at the town’s fishery wharf and will support the harvests from the 750 fish cages in the Sual Mariculture zone.

Based on the town’s data, there are about 60 metric tons of bangus harvested daily from the mariculture zone of Sual.

He said the catch of fishermen will have an added value if processed into different consumer products. (Nora Dominguez)
