SM withdraws terminal project

SM Supermall has withdrawn its proposed terminal project at the Perez Boulevard even before the public hearing by the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) could act on its request for an 18-month exemption from City Ordinance No. 951-77 while building the project.

City Secretary Ryan Ravanzo said an official of SM Supermalls verbally manifested his company’s withdrawal of its terminal project but will proceed with its proposed SM Center Dagupan on the lot occupied by the old Pantranco terminal on M. H. Del Pilar Street.

Ravanzo was asked by Councilor Jose Netu Tamayo, chair of the committee on laws and ordinances, to ask SM Supermalls to formalize its withdrawal with an official communication.

Ordinance No. 951-77 prohibits the construction of a terminal on any area in Dagupan whose ingress and egress is 100 meters away from a city intersection.

The terminal planned by SM was earlier opposed by the SP, Victory Liner, Five Star, Solid North and members of the transport sector since it would further aggravate traffic situation in Dagupan.

Tamayo also asked Victory Liner, Five Star and Solid North to agree on a common ingress and egress at Mayombo while maintaining their present locations along Perez Boulevard. (Leonardo Micua)
